WHAT IS A TATTERDEMALION?
The contemporary of a tatterdemalion describes a vagabond, a person clothed in shabby attire. "Design", in contrast, evokes order and status, a sentiment of a class of people who like their attire "just so". Tatterdemalion Designs represents this dichotomy--in and age of falling empires, industrial change, and enormous economic shifts, TD Designs outfits the cultural wayfarer who "cobbles together" his or her identity from the great past and uncertain future.
Though work on the first collection began in 2007, head designer W.H. Muse has been sewing for over 10 years. Driven by whimsy, a love of beautiful fabrics, artful design, and the needs of the fashion outsider, Tatterdemalion Designs continues to grow, evolve and change, acting as much as a reflection of cultural trends as a departure from them.
